THE POWER OF POSITIVE THINKING
CREATE YOUR REALITY ONE POSITIVE THOUGHT AT A TIME
I believe the single most underrated power that us spiritual beings living this human experience possess is the power of positive thinking. It is so easy to allow negative thoughts to ease into our minds, and then allow those thoughts to linger in our minds. What we don't realize is that these negative thoughts also have a real negative effect on our bodies! We're going to dive into the scientific confirmations of these effects and I hope this article brings value that you can take with you. I have included a free gift, from me to you, that will assist you in understanding the physical effects of both positive and negative thinking.
Have you ever suffered through depression after a break up, a loss of a loved one, or maybe you underperformed on an important test, or lost a job that you really enjoyed. Maybe you're similar to myself and went on the journey of entrepreneurship and found out the hard way that it is very difficult to attain success because there are so many factors that go into maintaining a successful business venture when you're looking to expand into newly discovered areas of financial security. These negative feelings of failure or loss are very real, and they take a physical toll on us that we generally aren't aware of.
First, we're going to take a look at the chemistry behind our emotions. We have 2 important neurotransmitters that serve their own distinct functions that contribute to the conditions of our mental health. Let's take a look at both!
Dopamine functions as the "feel good" neurotransmitter. It plays a key role in the brains reward system. It is released in response to pleasurable experiences. Dopamine also plays a huge role in motivation and goal achievement. This is why I find it important to set goals for yourself no matter how big or small! My suggestion would be to start out with setting small goals and as you achieve these goals, pay close attention to how you feel afterwards. That feeling of accomplishment will carry over to motivate you to conquer even larger goals with the confidence to do so. Dopamine is also crucial to bodily motor function. A deficiency in dopamine can lead to conditions such as Parkinson's disease.
SEROTONIN
Serotonin is also considered a "feel good" neurotransmitter in the brain. It balances mood and emotional well-being. The most important function of serotonin in my opinion is its sleep and appetite regulation. Our sleep cycle is really taken for granted. During sleep our body heals itself, and the healing process can function at its peak performance if the digestive system is clear of food. Imbalances of serotonin lead to anxiety, depression, and memory loss.

EFFECTS OF NEGATIVE THINKING
On the flip side of the great benefits of positive thinking, when we have negative thoughts and subject ourselves to stress we trigger a release of several chemicals. Let's dive into this a little bit further. Cortisol, Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, and Inflammatory Cytokines all contribute to anxiety, depression, and build up of inflammation throughout the body that directly affects brain, muscle, and organ function. Once we allow ourselves to maintain that feeling of anxiety about any challenge that we may face our body is physically directly affected and that energy gets stored in our vessel. You may notice when you're anxious about something your nervous system gets a little out of your control. Symptoms of this includes a non-stop foot tapping, or some other involuntary action that is completely driven by this anxiety and the chemicals that are released as a result.
COMBATING NEGATIVE ENERGY STORAGE
To combat the build up of negative energy we have several tools at our disposal that can definitely be helpful in destroying the chemical release involved in our heading to depression. Let's take a look at some of these tools.
1. Exercise - Working out is more than just something we do to lose weight or to gain strength. Exercise is the most powerful tool to use to release endorphins that uplift our mood and provide us clarity in staying in a good mood. Whether it's taking a walk, jogging, weight lifting, or performing yoga, moving your body doesn't allow stagnation to set in. The reward of the feeling of accomplishment afterwards allows us to stay in a positive mindset and continuous consistency of exercising builds momentum in staying in a positive mindset and getting more accomplished in life.

2. Meditation - Meditation and practicing deep breathing is probably the most underrated practice in eliminating stress and negative energy build up. Meditation requires you to focus on your breathing and clearing you mind of EVERYTHING else. It is easier said than done because we have been trained and indoctrinated to stay busy and productive in our western society. It may be considered being lazy to relax, and to not do anything all day but remain in a state of relaxation, focusing on your breathing and relieving your mind of all stresses and concerns. That's when you must ask yourself what you are prioritizing. Don't ever put societal standards above your own health. Remember, health is wealth!

3. Love - This may sound really strange to some, but the act of loving someone and being loved by someone releases the ultimate dopamine. The amount of stress that is thrusted upon us can be disassembled with a good long 20 second hug! Think about the feeling you feel when you have a significant other in your life. You feel like you are on cloud nine and people may even tell you that you have a glowing aura about yourself. Love making is an excellent stress reliever, and is a known cure for headaches and hypertension. Oxytocin is released during sex bringing your cortisol levels to a desirable level while also allowing you to feel more connected to your partner.
